The Oldest Tree in The Woods

A Tabletop Cinema Lab workshop

This weird and wonderful Tabletop Cinema Lab drew inspiration from the oldest tree in the woods, often named ‘The Mother Tree’. These older, more seasoned ‘hub’ trees are at the heart of a complex web of mycelium connections, giving fungi, seedlings and other plants better resilience within their woodland community.

A group of over 55s created dioramas with props and lights, bringing objects from home alongside Rachel Pearson’s hand-crafted copper and silver mushrooms.

Using their phones, they filmed short clips which Rebecca then edited into a collective film exploring the hidden communications between trees, fungi, and plants beneath our feet.

Music by 'Jury Service' with SFX and voice-over by participants.
